Direct to Chip Cooling Filtration Solutions

Ensuring Purity, Safety and Efficiency at Every Stage

Overview

As artificial intelligence, machine learning and high-performance computing continue to increase server heat loads, data centre cooling technologies are evolving rapidly. With rack densities now exceeding 200 kW, traditional air-cooled systems (CRAC) must be supplemented by hybrid cooling or replaced by direct-to-chip (DTC) technologies.

With cooling fluids flowing closer than ever to mission-critical IT equipment, fluid cleanliness has become a key factor in performance, reliability and uptime.

Amazon Filters provides filtration solutions across the entire cooling infrastructure, from the Facilities Water System (FWS) through to the Technology Cooling System (TCS), helping protect equipment, maintain cooling efficiency and support long-term system reliability.

A Complete Approach to Data Centre Cooling Filtration

From CDU to Chip

As cooling fluids move closer to processors and GPUs, filtration requirements become increasingly demanding.

Direct-to-chip cooling systems use precision-engineered microchannel cold plates capable of removing extremely high heat loads.Even small amounts of particulate contamination can impact cooling performance and long-term reliability.

Particulate contamination, corrosion products, construction debris and scale can circulate throughout cooling infrastructure, negatively affecting heat transfer efficiency and damaging sensitive equipment.

Without effective filtration,
system operators may experience:

  • Reduced cooling efficiency

  • Fouling of heat exchangers and Increased pump wear

  • Blocked microchannel cold plates

  • Elevated maintenance costs

  • Reduced equipment life with increased risk of unplanned downtime

Commissioning &
Flushing

Eliminating contamination during commissioning is essential to ensuring efficient operation throughout the system's service life.

Skid systems are available with pump, filter and controller to ensure fabrication debris is removed during flushing and system fill.

Facilities Water System
(FWS)

The primary cooling loop requires protection against particulate and microbial contamination to maintain heat transfer efficiency and system
reliability.

Coarse filtration using bags can be complemented by sidestream (15-20% of main flow) filtration. Our KilBac range provides excellent particle retention while preventing biofilm build up on the filters themselves. This has the benefit of extending filter life and lowering operational costs.

Cooling Distribution Unit
(CDU)

Adequate filtration upstream of, or within, the CDU can help protect internal heat exchangers from particulate contamination and fouling.

The filtration arrangement should be coordinated with the CDU manufacturer's requirements, taking into account the required filtration rating, flow capacity, allowable pressure drop, protection of internal components and limited space to prevent fouling of the internal heat exchangers.

Technology Cooling System (TCS)

Eliminating contamination during commissioning is essential to ensuring efficient operation throughout the system's
service life.

Skid systems are available with pump, filter and controller to ensure fabrication debris is removed during flushing and system fill.
