Amazon Filters help Wokingham UB50 walk to FA Peoples Cup 2017 Glory

Amazon Filters sponsored walking football team, Wokingham UB50, walked their way to FA Peoples Cup glory in Birmingham and are now Wembley bound.

Wokingham UB50 partook in a pulsating weekend of five-a-side action in Birmingham which proved a fitting end to the 2017 FA People’s Cup.

During the season, Wokingham UB50 have been followed by The BBC1 camera crew, accompanied by Trevor Sinclair which will culminate in a short film documentary to raise the profile of Walking Football. Amazon Filters will be there on Monday 8 May during their training session to put the finishing touches to the documentary which will air during Cup Final Day on BBC1.

As the 96 teams who qualified for the finals were whittled down to 16 winners, we saw great skills, wonder goals and miracle saves, while tears (of joy and despair) were shed and legs left empty with the effort of trying to secure a place at the FA Cup final.

Wokingham UB50 beat Leeds Titans in a fractious Walking Football final, falling behind initially but capitalising on a Leeds sin-binning to win 3-1. Wokingham UB50 can now look forward to a stroll at Wembley for the Emirates Final Cup.

Graeme Canning, Wokingham UB50 player, said:

“Thank you once again to Amazon Filters for your generous support of our walking football team. Success after only 2 years and beating Birmingham in the semi-final (a club with over 300 playing members) is no mean feat for a bunch of 7 local guys from Wokingham who just happen to keep in touch from school days and play football.

It was also good to beat teams with professional football club ties such as Portsmouth, Plymouth, Swindon, Birmingham, Manchester City but best of all we beat Leeds in the Final, and now we are looking forward to Wembley.”

Neil Pizzey, Managing Director of Amazon Filters, said:

“We are very proud of the Wokingham UB50 walking football team for winning the FA Peoples Cup and making it to Wembley for the Emirate Cup Final. Amazon Filters are proud to support local community charity projects and are always pleased to witness their successes. We can’t wait to hear about the results following the final.”
