Amazon Filters Ltd are one of the original Sponsors of Darren Turner, starting as we did in 1998, and we have continued that sponsorship throughout his career, and taken delight in his many winning drives.  His Career, since we have known Darren, has seen him employed by some of the big names in motorsport and taken him into several different race series driving cars such as the single seater Palmer Audi; Mercedes in DTM and Seat in BTCC saloon series: ASCAR; Aston Martin’s LMP 1 prototypes and their cars built for the World Series in GT1 and now GTE.

Darren grew up karting from a young age and was a winner in Junior and then Senior events.  He then graduated to single seater cars racing his own second hand, self prepared car in Formula First.  his successes soon resulted in Team drives in Formula Vauxhall and Formula Renault Sport, culminating in Darren winning coveted McLaren / Autosport / BRDC Young Driver of the Year Award.
Early in 1998 Darren needed sponsorship to pay for a seat in the new Formula Palmer Audi single seater series, and Amazon joined a small enthusiastic group to help fund his career through this next phase.  Darren was a winner and front runner throughout the season with the final series result being fought for at the very last meeting, ending up with Darren second overall.

Darren’s career moved on, and he drove for two years as a Mercedes driver in the prestigious DTM saloon series in Germany; was in the Mercedes le Mans Team in 1999, and a test driver for the McLaren Formula 1 Team.  He was third in class at Le Mans for Prodrive in a Ferrari 2004, and a frequent winner in the ASCAR series in Europe.  In 2005 Darren was signed by prodrive as one of their works drivers in the new Aston Martin DBR9, and in 2006 recorded a second in class at le Mans, as well as competing in most of the American Le Mans series.  In 2007 and 2008 Darren was a class winner at Le mans in the Aston, and also won several races for Seat in the BTCC saloon car series in the UK with teammate Jason Plato.

2009 and 2010 saw Darren competing again at Le Mans, but in the Aston Martin LPM 1 Prototype [based on Lola chassis] alongside a variety of drivers, including Anthony Davidson and Jos Verstappen who have both driven F1, and he also drove the car in the Le Mans Series at circuits around Europe.  In 2010 Darren also had a successful full season in the FIA GT1 world championship with the ‘Young Driver AMR’ team’s DBR9.

In 2011 Darren was again competing at Le Mans Series in Aston Martin’s own new open top LMP 1 car, but this was something of a disaster in that, as a completely new car; and new engine design, it had reliability and performance problems which were never solved. Darren also drove Aston DBR9 once again for the Young Driver Team, in the FIA GT1 series.

For 2012 Darren is racing for Aston Martin in their new GTE car built for the World Endurance Series, which has the Le Mans 24 hour race as its major event, and where the team finished third in class – an excellent result for a new car.

Amazon Filters are pleased to have been able to give our support for so long, and wish him continued success in this most competitive sport
