New Seawater Filtration System

18th May 2010

Amazon Filters Ltd Launches New Filtration System For The Filtration of Brackish and Seawater

Declining water supplies and increasing demand has resulted in an increase in the use of desalination equipment. The higher chloride levels found in brackish or seawater are likely to damage 316L stainless steel, so where filtration is required the filter vessel needs to be manufactured from expensive alloys or lined vessels need to be used.
To help reduce the costs of constructing desalination plants Amazon Filters Ltd has developed a new system for the filtration and brackish and seawater. It consists of a 20”, 40” or 60” length 27 Series GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) housing and a large diameter, high surface area SupaPleat FFC cartridge.

27 Series GRP Housing
The 27 Series GRP housing consists of a GRP polymeric body with super duplex stainless steel end fittings. The housings are designed so flow through the cartridge is optimised in ‘out to in’ mode which keeps the design as simple as possible. The inlet and outlet connections are set perpendicular to each other (side inlet, in-line outlet) to help ensure quick and easy cartridge change-out without the need to remove process pipework.
The robust construction provides a maximum operating pressure of 10 bar and maximum operating temperature of 45º C. To provide protection against UV light damage the external surface is painted and coated.

SupaPleat FFC Cartridge
SupaPleat FFC filters are large diameter, high surface area cartridges offering maximum efficiency and exceptionally high flow capabilities. They operate in the ‘out to in’ flow direction and are available in polypropylene media and with removal ratings of 0.5 – 50 µm, therefore can be used for a wide range of applications. They are also available as the ‘Crypto’ grade for removal of cryptosporidium and cysts.
